Apple Pie Workshop (For Kids)

Sat., Feb. 7, 2009; 11am

Children will enjoy making an apple pie from scratch in this fun, hands-on workshop. All materials are provided; one session only. Pre-register by calling 860.349.6043. $8 workshop fee per child. We will begin accepting reservations after Jan. 19, 2009.

Valentine's Cookie Workshop!(For Kids)

Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009; 11am; 1pm

Registration for this cookie decorating workshop will be accepted after Jan. 19, 2009. Parents, sign up early - this fun workshop fills quickly! Pre-register after Jan. 19 by calling 860.349.6043; $8 fee per child.

Valentine's Cake Decorating Workshop (For Kids)

Sat., Febl 14, 2009; two sessions: 11am & 1pm

Children will love decorating a heart-shaped cake with icing, candies, and more! Workshop presented by Marc Gadoury and baker Kate Corridan. $8 workshop fee. Limited spaces available, call soon! To register, call 860/349-6043, after Jan. 19.


Lyman's 37th Annual Winterfest!

Sat. & Sun., Feb. 21 & 22, 2009

Come celebrate the fun side of winter!  Internationally renowned ice carver and former national champion Bill Covitz and the snow-making experts at Ski Sundown, one of Connecticut's premier family skiing facilities, partner with us this year in presenting a fun-packed weekend!

No where else in Connecticut will you find, all in one place, such magnificent ice artistry, high-flying aerial stunts on skis and snowboards, lovable Siberian Husky Dogs, and Lyman's great food -- all bundled into a full weekend of family fun!

Indoor and outdoor activites also include all the free food samples you can eat, a Sculptures, horsedrawn wagon rides, sled dog mushing demos, and much more!

New to the event is the Rail Jam Exhibition sponsored by Ski Sundown. Installed on the Apple Barrel grounds will be a portable ski jump and terrain feature on which athletes will perform tricks.

In addition, we're keeping the event open until 7pm on Saturday night, so you can enjoy the opportunity to view Bill Covitz's amazing sculptures illuminated after dark!

Watch Bill Covitz his team of carvers transform 10,000 pounds of ice into a Winter Wonderland Under the Sea, with mermaids, coral reefs, sea turtles, mantarays, and King Neptune on his throne!

Rail Jam Exhibition & Contest
Sat: Noon - 2pm; 4pm - 6pm.     Sun: 1pm - 3pm.
Observe the athletic prowess of Connecticut's best skiers and snowboarders performing tricks on a ski jump! Signed waivers required; parental permission required for children under 18 yrs. Outdoor Food Concessions
Sat/Sun 11am-6pm.
Hotdogs, hamburgers, pulled pork, clam chowder, chili, hot apple crisp, sugar-on-snow, hot spiced cider, and much more!

Fruit Tree Pruning Demonstration
Sat/Sun, 10am - 12noon; in the orchard
Employing correct pruning techniques has a direct impact upon the health and productivity of fruit trees. In this two hour workshop, you will learn special pruning techniques from our experienced orchardists. Hand-out materials are available. There is no charge to attend this demonstration. Register in advance by calling 860.349.6043.

We'll have plenty of snow - enjoy watching mushing demonstrations! Kids love visiting with these affectionate, hard-working dogs! Bring your camera!

Easter Apple Hunt

Sat., April 4, 2009 (Raindate: Sat., April 11, 2009)

Dash for apples in the Easter Hay Maze; Visit with the Easter Bunny; Enjoy a FREE Magic Show; Hop onboard for a Horse-Drawn Wagon Ride! Children ages 1-10 years may participate.

Save the date for Connecticut's Only Easter Apple Hunt! More than 15,000 apples are hidden in our Hay Maze, just waiting to be discovered! Children may keep all apples they find. (Some are designated for prizes!) Bags for collecting apples are provided.

All children must be pre-registered to participate in the event. Registration forms are available at the Apple Barrel market, or register online.

This fun hands-on workshop for children fills very quickly! Children will make and decorate festive cookies for the holidays! Santa cupcakes; edible snowballs, gingerbread cookie decorating! Pre-registration required: call 860/349-6043; class size limited to 25 children; workshop fee: $5.


Fruit Basket Making Workshop for Kids!

There is no limit to a child's imagination! Watch the fun as children enjoy creating custom fruit baskets with fresh fruit, candies, cookies, and more treats! All materials are provided. Register at the Apple Barrel market, or call 860/349-6043. Registration fee: $10 per child.


Gingerbread House Holiday Workshop (for Kids!)
