Lyman's 38th Annual Winterfest!

Sat. & Sun., Feb. 20, & 21, 2010 -- Come for hours of indoor and outdoor family fun!

Come celebrate the fun side of winter!  Internationally renowned ice carver and former national champion Bill Covitz and the snow-making experts at Ski Sundown, one of Connecticut's premier family skiing facilities, partner with us again this year in presenting a one-of-a-kind fun-packed weekend!

No where else in Connecticut will you find, all in one place, such magnificent ice artistry, skiiing and snowboarding fun, lovable Siberian Husky Dogs performing sled dog mushing demonstrations, and Lyman's great food -- all bundled into a full weekend of family fun!

Indoor and outdoor activites also include all the free food samples you can eat, horsedrawn wagon rides with Foxglove Farm, Igloo-making demonstrations, a fruit tree pruning demonstration in our orchards, an apple pie baking workshop for children, free raffles, and much more!

To catch a behind-the-scenes glimpse of all the the hard work that goes into our Ice Carving Demonstration, stop by on Friday afternoon, from 2pm-5pm. Watch our talented carvers make their final preparations for the weekend Exhibition.

On Saturday morning, come watch Ski Sundown's experts groom the terrain and install a portable ski jump for the weekend's Rail Jam Exhibition in which experienced skiers will perform tricks on skis and snowboards.

The event will be open until 7pm on Saturday night, so you can enjoy the opportunity to view Bill Covitz's amazing Medieval sculptures illuminated after dark!

Medieval Ice Sculpture Exhibition!

Sat: 11am - 7pm; Sun: 11am - 5pm

Watch Bill Covitz and his team of carvers transform 25,000 pounds of ice into a Medieval Winter Wonderland featuring knights, dragons, gargoyles, and much more!!


Snowboarder

Skiing, Snowboarding, and Rail Jam Exhibition with Ski Sundown!

Sat. & Sun; 10am-2pm: Ski jump and terrain open to the public!
Bring your own snowboard and skis! If you are an experienced skier, you can join the fun, too! From 10am-2pm, the ski jump and terrain are open to the public.

To participate, proper equipment, helmets, and signed waivers are required.Parental permission is necessary for the participation of children under 18 yrs.

Sat. & Sun; 2pm-4pm: Rail Jam Exhibition & Show!

Watch the experts! Experienced and talented skiers and snowboarders from Ski Sundown perform a variety of tricks at the Rail Jam Exhibition.


Guiding Eyes for the Blind; Sat. Feb. 20; 11am-2pm

Established in 1954, Guiding Eyes for the Blind is a world-renowned guide dog school dedicated to serving the blind and visually impaired at no cost to them. Their superb dogs are known for their exceptional temperaments and success in helping visually impaired individuals gain greater personal freedom and independence.

Representatives will be here from 11am-2pm on Saturday. Come meet the puppies! Learn about their Puppy Raising Program!

Enjoy our famous apple-cider hotdogs, hamburgers, pulled pork, clam chowder, chili, hot apple crisp, hot spiced cider, sugar-on-snow, and much more!


Fruit Tree Pruning Demonstration

Learn from our experts!

Sat/Sun, 10am - 12noon

A Winterfest tradition! Enjoy learning about pruning fruit trees from the experts! Employing correct pruning techniques has a direct impact upon the health and productivity of fruit trees.

In this two hour workshop, our experienced orchardists will teach you about the importance of pruning, demonstrating their techniques on apple trees in our orchard. Hand-out materials are available.

There is no charge to attend the demonstration but registration is required. Register today by calling 860.349.6043.


Horse Drawn Wagon Rides with Foxglove Farm!

Sat/Sun, 11am-4pm

Great fun for the whole family! If we have adequate snow cover, horsedrawn sleigh rides will be available during the event!


Igloo Village!

Visit our Igloo Village!

Watch as our team of igloo builders cut blocks in the snow and build a small village of Igloos, just like the Eskimos!

Children will enjoy an opportunity to go inside the igloos -- parents, this is a wonderful photo opportunity!

Volunteer Opportunities!
