Lyman Orchards' Apple Trees Still Thriving as Drought Impacts Crops Statewide

More than 10 varieties of apple still available for daily Pick-Your-Own

As a statewide drought has forced some Connecticut orchards to cut their apple seasons short, Lyman Orchards announces that more than 10 varieties of apples are still available for pick-your-own. The orchard anticipates the season will maintain its normal schedule and continue through early November. The following varieties of apple are ripe and available for picking:

• Braeburn
• Cortland
• Crispin/Mutsu
• Empire
• Fuji
• Golden Delicious
• Granny Smith
• Jonagold
• Macoun
• Mcintosh
• Red Delicious
• Rome

Prior to arrival, guests are encouraged to call the 24-hour “Pick Your Own Hotline” - 860-349-6015, for the most current crop and field conditions.

Additionally, the historic 4-acre Corn Maze honoring the 275th Anniversary of the Lyman Family farming in Middlefield is open until Nov. 6. Curious navigators can put their orienteering skills to the test from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends and holidays. $1 from every admission is donated to the American Cancer Society. The Apple Barrel market is also still open so visitors can relax and enjoy a warm cup of cider alongside a hot apple crisp or Lyman’s award-winning Hi-Top Apple Pie.
