So what do you do with all of those perfect pick-your-own peaches from Lyman Orchards? Try your hand at canning and enjoy them all year round!
Preserving the tradition of canning is what this hands-on class is all about. The two-hour class, instructed by resident award-winning canning experts, RoseMary Frederick and Claudia Miller of the Durham Fair Canning Department, teaches proven methods for preparing and processing fresh-picked peaches for use later in the year. Preserving allows for out-of-season consumption of fruits and vegetables. Who knows? You may even end up canning up an entry for this year’s Durham Fair!
Your class fee includes instruction and one quart of freshly-canned peaches packed in a Ball mason jar. Peaches used for this canning class are freshly-picked from our orchards and ripened to perfection. The class will be held at The Apple Barrel Farm Market.
