At Lyman Orchards, we're always excited to share the unique fruits that thrive in our orchards, and one of the most special among them is the Shinseiki pear. Also known as the "New Century" pear, this variety is an Asian pear celebrated for its crisp bite, golden skin, and refreshingly sweet flavor.
Unlike traditional European pears that soften as they ripen, Shinseiki pears maintain a firm, crunchy texture, similar to an apple, while delivering a burst of juicy sweetness with every bite. They're perfect for snacking fresh off the tree, slicing into salads, or pairing with cheese for an elegant appetizer.
The Shinseiki pear trees flourish in our well-drained soils and benefit from the sunny days and cool nights. Each spring, their blossoms set the stage for a summer of careful trending, thinning, pruning, and monitoring to ensure the pears grow to their best size and flavor. By late summer, the fruit develops its signature yellow-gold skin, signaling it's time for harvest.
When you pick a Shinseiki pear straight from the orchard, you'll taste the difference that comes from generations of farming knowledge combined with the unique climate of our farm. Crisp, juicy, and refreshing, these pears are a seasonal treat you won't want to miss.
If you'd like to enjoy your pears beyond snacking, here are a couple of simple, tasty recipes:
