While Lyman Orchards is celebrated for its orchards and family-friendly activities, few visitors are aware of the remarkable art collection housed within the historic Lyman Homestead. This tour shines a light on the passion for art collecting that Mary Elizabeth Lyman, a prominent member of the Lyman family, cultivated in the 19th and 20th centuries.
Explore an exquisite selection of works by American and European artists, ranging from 19th-century landscapes to 20th-century portraits. The tour will also feature unique artworks created by Lyman family members themselves, offering a deeply personal connection to the creative legacy that spans generations.
The tour guide, Emma Flaherty, grew up in Connecticut and is currently a Curatorial Fellow in European Art at the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art in Hartford, CT. She received her B.A. in Art History from Wesleyan University and primarily researches Netherlandish and Italian art of the early modern period. Before working at the Wadsworth, Emma interned for two summers at the FloGris Museum in Old Lyme, CT, where she grew to have a special appreciation for the historic homes and art collections of Connecticut.
This tour offers a memorable journey through art, heritage, and history, perfect for art lovers, history bluffs, or anyone eager to explore a lesser-known chapter of the Lyman family's legacy.
