Lyman Orchards Donates More Than $13,500 to Connecticut Children's Medical Center To Fight Pediatric Cancer
Middlefield, Conn. – Dec. 19, 2018 -- Lyman Orchards presented Connecticut Children’s Medical Center in mid-December with a check for $13,565, for proceeds generated by its 2018 Sunflower Maze.
Lyman Orchards donates one dollar from each Sunflower Maze admission to benefit patients at Connecticut Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders. Over the past 12 years, maze attendees have helped donate $107,092 to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. The funds will be used in the fight against pediatric cancer.
Lyman Orchards and Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo worked together on this year’s Sunflower Maze. The tiger-themed maze was created with the natural beauty of more than 350,000 sunflowers and was inspired by the 2017 birth of two Amur tiger cubs at the Beardsley Zoo.
“This year’s maze was a celebration of two of Connecticut’s outstanding attractions. We were proud to bring to Lyman Orchards a larger than life representation of Beardsley Zoo’s tiger cubs,” said John Lyman III, Executive Vice President and eighth-generation family member. “The work the doctors, nurses and researchers do at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center is so important in the fight against cancer and their care for their young patients. We are pleased that nearly 14,000 guests went through this year’s Sunflower Maze, allowing us to surpass $100,000 in total donations to the hospital.”
“Connecticut Children’s is grateful to Lyman Orchards for continuing to direct proceeds from their Sunflower Maze to support the Medical Center,” said David Kinahan, president of Connecticut Children’s Medical Center Foundation. “We are delighted by this partnership and appreciate Lyman Orchards raising awareness of and funds for the unparalleled care provided to children, adolescents and young adults with cancer each day at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center.”
Connecticut Children’s Medical Center – ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one of the best children’s hospitals in the nation – is the only hospital in the state dedicated exclusively to the care of children.
The Sunflower Maze was sponsored this year by Connecticut Public TV.
The 2019 Sunflower Maze at Lyman Orchards will open in late July and will run through late August.
